You can undertake a placement year on all of our programmes. You can add a placement year (sometimes called a year in industry) to your degree after you arrive at Sheffield. Placements take place between your second and final year of study and we add 'Degree with Employment Experience' to your course title to reflect your time in the workplace.
Placements are a great opportunity for you to gain professional experience and to apply what you've learnt in lectures and seminars to an organisation. Placements can be in large or small organisations. Previous students have done placements at Accenture, PwC, L'Oreal, Disney, Rolls-Royce, HP, Microsoft, Santander, and Marks and Spencer, as well as less well-known companies.
With BA International Business Management, it can be trickier to organise a placement as you will be studying abroad when you are applying for placements and may be unable to attend interviews. We encourage students on this programme who want to do a placement year to think about it early and to approach companies who may be more flexible in their recruitment processes (e.g. by conducting Skype interviews).
There is lots of support available within the Management School through our Employability Hub. We hold regular events to promote placement opportunities and you can book an appointment with a Careers Advisor for 1:1 support, attend skills workshops (e.g. assessment centre preparation, psychometric test practice) and receive peer-to-peer support from our Placement Ambassadors who have been through the experience themselves.
