FAQ 180
What is Clearing?

Clearing is available from July to September each year for applicants who:

  • apply after 30 June;

  • didn't receive any offers or declined all their offers; or

  • didn't meet the conditions of their offer(s)

If you're a new applicant, you still need to register with UCAS and complete a full application, including the personal statement, but you won't be able to add any course choices. After you've submitted your application and received the UCAS Track welcome email, follow the instructions to search for vacancies and contact universities to secure a place. When a university that you want to attend has indicated that they'll accept you, you can add their course via your UCAS Track page.

If you made an application in-cycle but didn't receive any offers or declined all your offers, your Track status will confirm that 'You are in Clearing' or 'Clearing has started'. You'll then be able to search for vacancies and contact universities to secure a place. You should normally only formally add a choice to Track when a university has confirmed they will accept you.
