FAQ 177
How do I travel to Sheffield?

Sheffield is well placed for travel by air, rail and road.

Robin Hood Airport near Doncaster is around 30 minutes away by car. Manchester, Leeds/Bradford and East Midlands airports are all located about an hour away from Sheffield. Manchester airport is served by many domestic and international carriers and has a direct rail link to Sheffield both day and night. Both London airports (Heathrow and Gatwick) are reasonably accessible by rail with just one change of train required. We recommend you to allow at least four hours travel time between either of these airports and Sheffield.

Sheffield has a large train station with regular services between all the major UK cities and Sheffield.

There is also a large bus station with regular coach services between the major cities. Buses from the train/bus station to the University run frequently, as often as every 10 minutes until 11:30pm.

Before you leave for the UK, you should read our advice on arriving in the UK, this also includes some tips from our current students: sheffield.ac.uk/ssid/international/before-you-arrive

We offer a meet and greet service at the University where one of our ambassadors will meet you at the arrivals gate at Manchester Airport and show you to our coaches, which will then take you to the Campus. For more information, visit: sheffield.ac.uk/ssid/international/before-you-arrive
